United remain in third place in the premier league and two points ahead of Spurs with a game in hand after a goalless draw at Old Trafford. The game’s big moment was a Casemiro lunge where he won the ball, but his foot bounced up from the ball and caught Alcaraz on the shin with his studs. From then on, it always seemed like it was heading for a draw. Southampton didn’t have the quality and United didn’t have the numbers.
United had looked comfortable with eleven and were gradually working themselves into complete control but once the Referee, together with VAR, decided on the red card the contest was over. Even when a Southampton player handled the ball in his box for what looked like a certain penalty, the referee decided against it.
Casemiro will miss four games as it’s his second dismissal of the season, which may be more important than the dropped two points today. He’ll miss the FA quarter-final versus Fulham and the following three Premier League games.
