United v Barca Europa Knockout 2nd leg: Predicted XI and Score

February 23, 2023

After a first leg in which Barca lucky to get a draw, United will hope to win this in the ninety minutes and avoid extra time and penalties. Martial and Antony were back in training, but we wouldn’t expect either to feature. Dalot has had plenty of minutes since his return so will probably edge out Wan-Bissaka for a starting place at fullback. Up front we expect Weghorst to continue as Erik ten Hag obviously rates his work despite the lack of goals.

In defense, Martinez and Varane are in front of DeGea with Dalot and Shaw on the flanks. Wan-Bisakka has done brilliantly in Dalot’s absence, but Dalot is a better attacker.

The only question in midfield is Sabitzer or Fred. Hopefully, the Fred that played in the first leg and not the other Fred turns up. Casemiro and Fernandes start when available.

Upfront, expect Weghorst to start and do a similar job in stopping De Jong and Barca from building from the back. He may lack goals, but his tactical awareness is something Ten Hag obviously admires.

It’s probably too soon for an Antony return and Sancho looks like his love of football has returned so expect him to get the nod with Rashford starting out wide on the left.

Predicted Score : 3-1

Rashford, Sancho, Fernandes or a Weghorst hat trick.
