Predicted XI and score v Nottingham Forest

February 1, 2023

With United leading three goals to nil from the first leg, tonight seems like an ideal opportunity to rotate some players. However, so was last weekend’s cup tie, and Erik ten Hag decided to field an almost full-strength starting eleven. Sabitzer won’t be available until the weekend. Eriksen, VDB and McTominay are definitely out. Shaw and Delot are uncertain to be available, but Martial and Sancho should be in the squad. It’s guesswork but we could see a side like this:

It’s likely a similar back five to the weekend will start, with Heaton coming in for DeGea.

There aren’t many midfield bodies available so Casemiro and Fred should start with Mainoo given the chance to shine. The option of playing someone like Martinez holding midfield is possible too. It could be Fred, Martinez, Fernandes but Bruno has put in a lot of miles recently and deserves a rest.

Upfront, Rashford will want to start, and he would be better up front than Elanga, but United are three up, so it’s not worth the risk. He can always come off the bench after Lingard’s hat trick! Garnacho and Pellistri deserve starts.

Expect Sancho and Martial to make an appearance at some stage too.

Score Prediction:

2-2
